When you use something every day, it’s important that you love it, and even more important that you trust it. That’s how Dr. Shea Bess of Autumn Ridge Dental in South Jordan, Utah, feels about Ultradent’s UltraSeal XT® plus sealant

In fact, Dr. Bess has been using UltraSeal XT plus sealant for the better part of 17 years! “I like the viscosity of Ultradent’s sealants (he’s recently also been using Ultradent’s UltraSeal XT® hydro sealant and I love the Inspiral® Brush tip that you use to apply it.”

application of the sealant, reducing its viscosity
 and helping prevent running

Dr. Bess adds, “Once you have the tooth prepped, I love how you can just flow the sealant down into all those grooves and how it will just carry out and through the grooves and also up onto the cusps. Other sealants I’ve used have been a lot more viscous, so I’d stick some of it on the occlusal, and then I’d have to take an explorer and drag it to where it needed to be. With the Inspiral Brush tip, you can get the sealant down in there really nicely and it will just flow where you want it to. I don’t have to fight it like I’ve had to fight other sealants I’ve used,” he says, continuing, “In fact, the few times I have used other sealant material, I’ve just thought, ‘Oh my gosh, this is irritating!’”

The longevity and performance of a sealant is another reason Dr. Bess sticks with Ultradent’s sealants. That is, he inserts, with the occasional exception.

“If I get a patient that is a big ice chewer or a heavy grinder, I can’t count on any product sticking in there, but if there were one that would do the best job, it would probably be UltraSeal XT plus sealant.”

He adds, “But with most kids, with UltraSeal XT plus sealant, if you can get their teeth nice and dry, I’ve seen it last for years and years. I have a patient that I put the sealant on in 2005 or 2006 and it’s still there and intact!”

He even trusts UltraSeal XT plus sealant for his family.

“When I see adults with deep grooves in their teeth, like my wife, I’ll apply sealant. In fact, I placed her sealant in 2007 and at her last six-month check-up, they were all still sealed.”

As for his venture into using Ultradent’s UltraSeal XT hydro sealant, Dr. Bess says he likes it so far, and thinks he’ll end up using both sealants in his practice. “The thing I like about UltraSeal XT hydro sealant is that you can skip the PrimaDry® drying agent step. That decreases my costs. However, it is more technique-sensitive in that you don’t desiccate the tooth before applying it. You have to keep them moist, but not wet. The whole experience is more like bonding.”
