Even small amounts of moisture at the wrong moment can compromise an otherwise clean operative field. Achieving rapid, profound hemostasis is a foundational skill of operative dentistry. Scrub the cut bleeding tissue with the Metal Dento-Infusor™ tip.** With the Metal Dento-Infusor tip, scrub Astringedent X hemostatic firmly against the cut bleeding tissues until bleeding stops. The action of scrubbing, not a passive application, is what allows the ferric sulfate chemistry to do its work. Test for profound hemostasis with a firm air/water spray.** Give a firm air/water spray to remove the residual coagulum and to test for profound hemostasis. If bleeding continues, repeat the first step. Astringedent X hemostatic is designed for complete hemostasis, and the rinse is what confirms whether the field is truly dry or if another pass is needed before moving on. Place retraction cord to set up the procedure.** After complete hemostasis has been attained, excellent retraction is achieved using [Ultrapak™ knitted cord](https://www.ultradent.com/products/categories/retraction/retraction-cord/ultrapak) placed with the [Ultrapak™ packer](https://www.ultradent.com/products/categories/retraction/instruments/ultrapak-packers). Cord placement after hemostasis preserves the dry field that Astringedent X hemostatic creates and gives clinicians the controlled environment needed for steps that follow. When the field is truly dry, bonds hold, impressions and scans can be read cleanly, and crown margins seat the way they should.
