Celebrating Earth Day: Ultradent's Commitment to Sustainability

Written by Daniel Lewis | April 22, 2024

On Earth Day 2024, we at Ultradent Products are proud to share our ongoing efforts to protect and enhance the environment around us. We are actively engaged in crucial initiatives to conserve resources and serve the dental community in environmentally conscious and sustainable ways.

We recently published our 2024 Social Responsibility and Sustainability report, which showcases many of the ways Ultradent is striving to improve oral health globally while being a positive member of the community, both in our own backyard of Salt Lake City, Utah, and around the world.

Our mission to improve oral health globally is intertwined with our environmental initiatives. By reducing resource consumption and implementing sustainable practices, we not only mitigate our ecological footprint but also secure our long-term operational viability. This approach is vital not just to meet, but to exceed the expectations of those we serve. Our commitment to the environment goes beyond compliance—it’s about setting a positive example by demonstrating responsible practices.

Here are some of the key initiatives we've implemented:

  • Water Conservation: We've optimized our manufacturing processes in ways that conserve 1,200,000-1,500,000 gallons of water each year. We have also transformed the landscaping at Ultradent's headquarters to xeriscaping, which significantly reduces water usage, saving thousands of gallons annually.
  • Energy Efficiency: Transitioning to LED lighting and replacing outdated HVAC systems with modern variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems have greatly enhanced our energy efficiency at HQ.
  • Waste Reduction: For decades, Ultradent has prioritized recycling, annually repurposing approximately 200 tons of cardboard. We’ve also moved to Agile Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) to reduce paper consumption drastically in our product development processes.
  • Sustainable Packaging: Our packaging designs focus on sustainability, utilizing non-virgin polyethylene terephthalates (PETs) and other recycled materials to lessen our dependence on single-use plastics.

This Earth Day, we reaffirm our dedication to innovation, responsibility, and environmental leadership. To learn more about our sustainability efforts and how we're working to preserve our planet, we invite you to read our Social Responsibility and Sustainability report.
